Bad Luck

We’ve run across a bit of bad luck this week.  On the first day of construction, I had to back the truck out of the garage and when I went to do this, it wouldn’t go into reverse.  I took it over to the auto shop and they told me that the transmission is going out.  All I could hear was “ka-ching!”  There goes another chunck of money and it is a huge chunk.  What a bad time for this to happen.  Not a good day~

Our weekend has come to an end and we managed to get everything out of the kitchen just under the wire.  It was a lot of work but now we’re excited to get this project underway.  Tonight we enjoyed our last meal (Nate’s pizza) which was my special request, because I will truly miss his homemade pizza’s.  When I wake up tomorrow, I will have a gigantic dumpster to look at for the next two months….aaah, it’ll be beautiful with the white snow all around it!

Today we finished packing up the entire kitchen and living room.  What an exhausting day.  I never want to move and if we should ever have to, Nate & I decided that we’d definately hire movers to do the job.  Tomorrow will be our last meal using real plates and glasses….we move to paper products starting on Monday.  Now that everything’s cleared out, I’m excited to get this started.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Another Thanksgiving has come and gone and once again, I am very, very full!  This year we had an “Italian” Thanksgiving with all the fixings.  Nate does most of the cooking for these meals and this year he outdid himself again.  The turkey was so incredibly moist with perfect seasoning in every bite.  Also at the table was a butternut squash lasagne, chestnut stuffing and of course, mashed potatoes.  The Davicks brought a pumpkin cheesecake that was light and fluffy and oh, so tasty for dessert and Jim was in charge of appetizers.  He too, outdid himself by making asparagus crustini, spinich & ham pinwheels, and proscuitto-wrapped canalope…..delicious!

After dinner we did something very “untraditional”.  Since we will begin construction on our kitchen on Monday, we got out our crayons and everyone took turns drawing all over our walls!  We had so much fun and the kids couldn’t believe they could actually do this without getting into trouble.  Things will be different next Thanksgiving.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving~  Gobble-Gobble!

Tonight I went out with my girlfriends from high school.  There are about 10 of us in our group and we get together once a month, if you can make it.  We typically meet at a restuarant and last night we were at The Outback.  It’s always a good time being together with this group of girls.  Never a dull moment and never a moment of silence.  We laugh, get caught up on everyone and their families and always reminisce about high school.

Yay, the Vikings won today.  That’s a big deal around here because they really stink this year so we’ll take anything we can get.  Nate’s put a positive spin on the Vikings by realizing if they keep losing, they’ll fire our coach and hopefully we’ll have a better season next year.  Good thinking hon!

Nate is out and about hunting for our Thanskgiving turkey as I write.  Well, he’s at Byerlys “hunting” for it.  Looks like we’ll need about a 12 to 13 pounder this year.  I can’t wait to smell the aromas in our kitchen.

Another cloudy day

I’m really getting tired of these cloudy November days.  I was all gung-ho about getting out today and doing some shopping, getting Kelly’s hair cut and maybe even cleaning off the deck.  All of that changed when Kelly came down with a stomach-ache in Walgreens and we had to head back home.  Now I’ve lost all motivation to do anything and I’m stuck indoors once again.

We loved our movie, Surf’s Up, last night.  I would definately recommend this and if you do watch it, be sure to watch the special feature of the Chubb Chubbs.  It’s pretty funny.

I’m so glad it’s Friday.  I wasn’t feeling very good this morning and was worried I was coming down with some sort of a “bug” that would ruin my weekend.  Turns out, by mid-afternoon I was feeling better.  Must have been that “not wanting to go to work” bug.

Nate talked to our contractor today and it looks like we’ll be getting our kitchen underway the Monday after Thanksgiving.  I’m starting to get a nervous stomach now that it’s actually going to happen.  I’ll be keeping my fingers & toes crossed that all things go well, and more importantly, on time!

Tonight we’re doing “family movie night” and we’ll be watching “Surf’s Up” which was recommended by my sister, Peggy.  I”ll let you know tomorrow if we give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down.

Tonight I took Kelly over to church for her First Reconcilliation (aka – confession).  There were 157 kids going through this with 10 priests strategically planted all around the church.  They do this face-to-face with the priest and are much more prepared than we were as kids.  Kelly was very nervous and chose to go to our priest, since he’s familiar to her.  When she was finished, she sat down beside me and said, “well that was fast!”  I congratulated her on her first step towards receiving First Communion.

I just finished eating one of my favorite homemade pizza’s, a thin crust proscuitto and asparagus pizza.  Nate makes the best pizza’s in the world, and I do mean in the world.  I keep telling him that he could easily open a pizzaria with his homemade gourmet pizza recipes that he’s developed.  They’re so fabulous and he always gets rave reviews from all of our friends and family.  I hope you get a chance to taste one of his many creations sometime.  And did I mention, a glass of Shiraz is the perfect compliment to this dish.
