Summer Grillin’
I love this time of the year when you go outside and smell all those grills cooking. Mmm…makes me hungry thinking about it. Hopefully, Purple Girl, you’ll get lots of use out of yours this summer. We can’t wait to be invited over for a cook-out! Oh, did I say that out loud?
As Plankton said, we’re in need of a grill too, but it is kind of fun watching him bring out this huge tool to open & close the grill. He’s definitely got a lot in common with Red Green from PBS (if you know who he is). We also need patio furniture. We can only seat three people this year out on our deck. So I guess it’s first come, first serve at the Solbergs for dinner. We’re sort of the definition of “white trash” right now. ha-ha
Memorial Day
It wasn’t quite the warmest day of the weekend…okay, it was cold yesterday. So I decided to make it a scrap-booking day. I spent nine hours on my scrapbook pages! It felt good to get back into it and finish my old book that I’ve been working on since October. I’m now just about done with my newest book as well, thanks to my Memorial Day workings. The girls were confused as to why I was putting in birthday pictures from two years ago. I guess I better work a little faster this summer!
Singin’ the Blues
Last night, Nate & I went over to the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis to listen to some Blues music. It was a lot of fun to be in this nice little club because you’re about five feet away from the stage. Very cozy and quaint.
Today we spent the day finishing our plantings. Nate bought some petunia’s for the front garden and I got some herbs to plant in pots out on the deck for summer meals. It turned out to be a beautiful day with lots of sunshine. The girls got on their swimsuits and ran around squirting each other with spray bottles filled with water. It kept them cool and felt like summer!
Long Weekend
I’m so glad it’s the weekend, and it’s a long weekend for most of us. The weather around here is supposed to cooperate as well. I’m glad I’ll be around my house because this morning I caught these little House- Finches making a nest in my hanging pot out front! My job this weekend is to guard my flowerpot and not allow this to happen again. They’re so fast!! Enjoy your weekend everybody~
Flower Power
Today we headed over to Sailer Greenhouses and bought round one of our summer flowers. Today was mostly for Megan & Kelly. They picked out flowers for their gardens and I got two pots of geraniums and one hanging pot for the front door. Nate did all the hard work. He dug out a new garden for Kelly, which is actually an extension off of Megan’s garden. Megan wasn’t too keen on this idea because she’s had that corner garden for the past few years and has claimed that real estate her own. After it was all planted, the colors are beautiful and hopefully it will continue to bloom all summer long.
Finally Friday
This seemed like a long week to me. I guess it’s because I’ve started to count down how many days left until summer vacation. I shouldn’t do this to myself!
Kelly was in a small performance today in her music class. They performed a skit called A Year With Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel (popular author of kids books). Kelly played the part of Toad and and her good friend Wil, played Frog. They sang songs, did actions and even had a narrator. I snuck out of my last hour to go and watch this and yes, I had my camera along. It was very cute.
Recital
Tonight is Megan & Kelly’s spring piano recital. Somehow I got talked into doing a duet with Kelly. It’s a simple one, but there’s always that chance I’ll mess up. I get very nervous and have never liked playing in front of people. I’m sure it’ll be fine if I just remember to breathe!
Mother’s Day
Being June Cleaver (the most famous Mom), I had to write and wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. I was presently surprised to wake up this morning and find that the sun was shining. That just tells me it’s going to be a great day. Tonight we’re off to the Twins game for a fun family night out. It’s Mother’s Day at the Metrodome, which means the first 10,000 mom’s get a free pink Twins shirt. Looking forward to that! If I have to tackle a few moms down to the ground to get one, I’ve got the experience from school.
Stewie, call your Mom today!
Costume Party
Our Minnesota party was alot of fun. I couldn’t believe how creative people were today. We had Babe Winkelman, The Pillsbury Dough Boy, Jessica Lange, a couple of Betty Crockers (even though she’s a fictional character) but is related to General Mills, Judy Garlands and of course, lots and lots of Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves and Wild fans. No Jesse Ventura’s or Winona Ryder’s were spotted.
Birthday Party
Tomorrow is a big day at our school and all across this wonderful state of ours. Minnesota turns 150 years old! We are having a celebration in the gym. Our school is decorated beautifully with our state bird, flower and other Minnesota memorabilia. The kids can dress up as their favorite person from Minnesota such as Dr. Mayo (Mayo Clinic), Judy Garland and or Laura Ingles, just to name a few. I’ll be sporting my Minnesota Wild jersey! No Brett Farves tomorrow…sorry Newcomers. We’re also having birthday cake. One of our teachers makes wedding cakes on the side, so she will be busy tonight making cake for over 600 people.
