Comfy Day!

comfydayToday at school was “comfy day.”  This is a fun day where the kids can wear their pajama’s, bring blankets, stuffed animals, snacks and even a pillow (as long as they don’t fall asleep).  Most of the grades scoot the desks out of the way and the kids just lay on the floor and read for a designated time.  I was fortunate to be in the 5th grade classroom when they had a 20 minute “drop everything and read.”  So I ran upstairs, got my book and joined in.  Then in the afternoon I was in 4th grade and they were reading for the entire day, so again I grabbed my book and found a spot on the floor and opened my book.  I have to admit, I didn’t last too long on the floor and found my rear-end falling alseep after about 10 minutes on that hard floor.  So I slowly got up and found a chair.  No one noticed.

After school, the comfy day continued by the girls playing Xbox in their jammies till dinner time and then we went straight to movie night.  What a fun day!

This morning, Megan & Kelly performed at the annual Piano Festival.  This is where they are to play two songs, which they have memorized, in front of a judge.  They are scored on things such as dynamics, rhythm and missed notes.  They have each done this for two years now and have scored a perfect 5 both times.  If they score 5’s again this year, they will receive a trophy.  I think that’s why they were both a little nervous this time around.  I have to say that my palms were quite sweaty during their performances too!   But they both did a great job and we are looking forward to finding out their results on Tuesday night at their lessons.

I had such a nice Friday.  It started out by not having to go to work.  We had the day off because of a “professional” day, which meant that all the teachers had meetings to attend.  I got a few things done around the house this morning, took a 15 minute nap this afternoon and then went over to my sister Terry’s house for a jewelry party.  I took Kelly with me because her sister had a birthday party/sleepover tonight and Nate stayed home and ordered Chinese food and watched a Clint Eastwood movie.  Not something Kelly would’ve enjoyed.  But it was fun to hang out, try on jewelry and eat some yummy appetizers.  Kelly & I ended up ordering a couple of necklaces and I also got a pair of earrings.  It was a fun Mother/Daughter evening.    Thanks Aunt Terry….we had a great time!!

programTonight we went and watched Megan in her 5th grade program.  They put on a performance of Lewis & Clark.  It was very funny and very well done.   Megan was in a song & dance called, “life’s rough.”  She and nine other kids were dressed in puppy ears and paws and performed a fun and cute routine.  We really enjoyed it and even learned some facts regarding the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Today is Valentines Day and I am having a nice, relaxing one.  In the morning I cleaned the house so that I could relax on the couch all afternoon and read my new book.  I have just finished baking a batch of brownies so the house smells wonderful and now Nate is making Ciabatta bread, which will make the house smell of fresh homemade bread.  Mmmm…I wish I could save all these smells and bottle them up.

For our Valentine’s evening, we’ll be eating a Mediterranean pizza and the girls are having a Hawaiian pizza.  We’ve rented Narnia 2 – Prince Caspian to watch while dining.  Wow, Valentines Day sure does change from those dating years.  But  I did get flowers from Nate & Megan.  They went to Byerly’s this afternoon to pick up a few items and thought flowers would be a nice surprise.  I love them!

Happy Valentines Day to everyone!  Hope you’re enjoying your day~

I’ve been having a tough week, health wise.  I’ve had three migraine headaches in four days.  And being that it’s Friday the 13th, I was doomed to get one this morning as I awoke.  Not cool on party day at school.  I was able to get rid of the pain before I left for school, but was dizzy and worn-out until about noon.  Since we celebrated Valentines Day today, the kids were all in fabulous moods and behaving well.  I don’t think I could’ve handled a “take-down” today.

The afternoon went well and walking home in the cool, fresh air felt nice.  Kelly has her friend Lauren sleeping over and Megan is at a birthday sleepover at a friend’s house.  So tonight I’m planning on reading my book and going to bed early.  Hopefully waking up and spending Saturday…migraine free.

I had a successful weekend of scrapbooking.  I started Friday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. and I finished up around 2:00 this afternoon.  I went with my friend Dawn.  We stayed at the Archer House Historical Hotel in Northfield, MN.  This is our third year of attending this event and we really enjoy it and get quite a few pages completed.  This year I did 48 pages and I believe Dawn finished 42 pages, which is fabulous because she even journaled on hers.  There are 20 women in one room all scrapbooking different events.  It’s so fun to walk around and see other peoples albums.  The food is wonderful, the music stinks, but the conversations are never dull.   I’m glad to be home and as always, I missed my family… and my pillow.

Today we have a Late Start day.  I enjoy having these two hours extra in the morning.  I took Kelly to the orthodontists, got a crock pot meal ready and still have time to check emails and blog.   I feel relaxed.   Tomorrow, I am off to a scrapbooking retreat in Northfield MN,  with my friend Dawn.  We usually go to this in the fall, but this year it landed on her sons’ birthday so we were unable to attend.  I’m looking forward to my three days of scrapbooking and hopefully getting lots done and having a fun time as well.

Have a great weekend!

I feel as though we’re ‘keeping up with the Jones’ because the Solberg’s have now joined Netflix.   We’ve been toying with this idea for about a year now and this weekend, Nate hit the buttons and signed us up!   All four of us chose some movies that we were interested in.  Not knowing what one will come first, we just have to wait.  Today our first movie arrived and it looks as though I’m the winner.  My movie was the one in the mail.  So now I feel pressure to watch it, so that I can return it quickly in hopes that someone else can enjoy one that they have picked.   The movie that came today is Juno.  I’ve heard it’s a good one.  I’ll give my review after I’ve viewed it.

The weekend’s not over yet, but it sure has been a fun one and the weather has been great!  Yesterday it was 40 degree’s!  It felt like a spring day.  On Friday night, Nate & I went to my work party at the Principal’s house.  There was a good crowd of people and then the Wii came out.  It was fun to see people you work with shakin’ their hips while playing Guitar Hero or the older teachers let loose a little and bowl with their husbands!      Yesterday, I went to see the movie Marley & Me with my sister Terry and my friend Dawn.  It was a very good movie and I think I still have some ’sniffles’ yet when I think about it.   We needed to do something cheerful afterwards, so we headed over to Starbucks and enjoyed some lattes, chai tea and a cocoa.  It was a great girls day out!

Today is Superbowl Sunday!  As usual, we will have the game on, in fact, Nate has ESPN on already and it’s only 9:00 a.m.!  We will also enjoy our newest tradition….watching the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet.   So it’s a busy and fun weekend.  I hope you have a fun day as well and Happy February!  I’m glad that January is over.
