Day 9: Texas
They say that Texas has some of the best steakhouses in America. Well, last night, Burnsville had a pretty darn good one. We had Jim & Sandra over for dinner and Nate made a Steakhouse Menu for all to enjoy. We started out with some delicious appetizers that you would find at the finest steakhouses. Shrimp Cocktail, Crab-Stuffed Mushrooms and for the girls…Cheesy Garlic Bread. Nate found a “kicked-up” cocktail sauce for dunking the shrimp into. It was fabulous!
We needed something to drink alongside these appetizers. We checked our bar supply and looked for recipes that we could use our own ingredients that we had on hand. Nate found one called, “A Banana Cow.” It had Banana Liqueur, Grenadine, Rum, and of course…cream. We love to make fun martini’s and this was simple and delicious!
While Nate was working in the kitchen and I was setting the table and clearing off the appetizers, the girls started up a card game with Sandra & Jim. It was getting pretty rowdy over in the living room. Who knew Uno was so competitive! ha~
When it came time for dinner, the house was smelling wonderful. Nate seared three enormous steaks in the grill pan, just to perfection. He added fresh green beans and baked potato to our plates. A steakhouse meal that was as good as Texas would serve!
I was in charge of dessert for the night. I made Whoopie Pies. They are kind of like a cookie, but made with cake, and have a marshmallow cream-filled center. I added orange zest and orange juice to the cake to give it the orange flavor. It was a sweet treat to end our meal and we enjoyed it while watching a movie.
Day 10: Back Home
Today, we return home to Minnesota and just hang out and reflect on our week of touring the globe. We have enjoyed our week off. No matter what we did, it always beats being at work/school. Megan is going to babysit the neighbor, I will probably run and get a few groceries, Kelly has a bit of homework to finish and Nate will read his Sunday papers. One last day to relax before the alarm goes off early in the morning.
