It was Megan’s birthday this past Friday and I cannot believe that we have a 15 year old in the house! We took her out for a birthday dinner that night to a place called, Granite City Brewery, in Eagan. This is a favorite spot of ours and we were happy that she chose this restaurant. Always good food and wonderful atmosphere inside. As always, I like to mention to the waitress that we are celebrating a birthday. She told Megan that she gets a free cookies at the end of her meal. Yay, we always like getting freebies! When we finished our dinner, she brought Megan her cookie. This was not your ordinary cookie, this was a huge cookie in a pie tin, all soft and warm with caramel drizzled on top! The best part was that it came with four spoons! This was incredible and we all enjoyed Megan’s treat.
Before dinner, Megan opened her presents. Both Grandparents sent their gifts ahead of time, so she opened those a couple of days ago (they were too tempting to look at). She did have a gift bag from Aunt Terry, which she opened first. Very excited to get movies and chocolates. What’s not to like there?!
Some other gifts from us were already known before she opened them because she picked them out back in August while school shopping. Being the mean mom I am, I paid for them, but made her give them to me to wrap up for her birthday. Finally she can wear those sweat pants she’s been waiting for! Worth the wait Megs? I hope so.
One of Megan’s favorite places to go for a treat, is a place called, Cherry Berry. It’s a place you can mix & match your yogurts and add any toppings you like. She will ask to go there 3 or 4 times a week in the summer and usually after every soccer game. We don’t always say yes, but we have gone a few times and it’s very delicious and a perfect summer cool-down. They always have t-shirts hanging up behind the register and she commented once on how cute they are. I went and picked one up this week. She was so surprised when she opened this and said, “I forgot about this shirt!” Then starting laughing.
Saturday night was party night! Megan invited seven of her best friends to sleepover and hang out for the night. Kelly had two of her friends spending the night as well. That makes 11 teenagers in one house!! Help!
Nate was in charge of the dinner…pizza, of course. He had crusts lined up on the counters ready to be loaded with toppings. They turned out great and I told him I think this was his best production line yet. Timing was great and everyone was happy with their service. ha~
The girls ate dinner then headed downstairs for party time. We weren’t allowed down there at this point and that was fine, because it was so incredibly loud… with their voices, music and the tv. I’m sure we were that way when we were teenagers too. While they were partying, Nate was busy making our pizza and I was opening the wine (it’s the only way to get through a night of teenagers).
Megan and friends made their way upstairs when it was time for cake. We got all girls around the table and we sang Happy Birthday to Megan. This is the first year in a while, that she managed to blow out all of her candles. She was nervous about that and almost left one lit. She let out a “whew!” at the end.
I didn’t get to take pictures of the gift opening. I was invited, but decided to the let Megan and friends enjoy their time together without Mom and her camera. I did drop in just to get one picture. Okay, I was curious!
I did get a picture this morning of a few gifts while I cleaned up. Looks like Megan got a very nice variety of gifts from her generous girlfriends. Movies, jewelry, clothes, gift cards and candy. All things Megan enjoys. Her friends know her well.
This morning I had to go down and wake these girls up. Megan had a soccer game and needed to leave by 9:30. Nate ran out this morning and got us all fresh donuts from Cub. What a yummy treat to wake up to. Then within 15 minutes, our house was empty and all was quiet again. Ahhhh…
It really was a very nice birthday party and the girls were very respectful and quieted down when we parents headed to bed. Megan has such a wonderful group of friends and Nate & I just love seeing her grow up to be such a beautiful person inside and out. Happy Birthday Megs!
