Happy Easter everyone! It’s been a nice, long day for us with the sun shining down for most of this wonderful Easter day. The girls came downstairs and peeked into their baskets as always. I heard Megan let out a huge “howl” when she spotted her DVD of Just Dance 4. Her favorite series of movies. Kelly was delighted to get The Blind Slide. She and I just watched it together about a week ago and said that she wished we owned this movie. Now we do! The bunny also put in a gift card to our local movie theater along with the some candy and gum. Pretty nice baskets, I would say.
We started our day off by going to church and seeing the wonderful display of Easter Lilies on the altar. Always my favorite day of the year at church…yes, it even beats out the poinsettias at Christmas time. We were amused this morning at our priest’s Homily/Sermon. His theme was “The Impossible Can Be Possible.” He managed to tie in the Minnesota Gophers Girls Hockey Team and their perfect record of 41-0 this season…saying that their captain said, ‘We thought it was impossible, but it happened.” Just like Jesus rising the from the dead. Impossible, but it happened. Way to keep the sports people involved during church! Cracked me up! ha~
When we got home, I made a dessert for dinner. It was a Cadbury Cake Bar recipe. It was simple to make, but a little messy when it came time to cut up those darn Cadbury Eggs. Lots of goo, oozing out everywhere and super sticky!
I quickly added it to the batter, then enjoyed licking my fingers. They turned out fabulous!
We had a couple of hours to kill, so we decided to head out to the Como Park Conservatory and see some of the pretty flowers. When we arrived at Como, we found that we weren’t the only ones with this idea today. It was pretty crowded, but everyone kept moving and we weren’t in any hurry. Sadly, Megan couldn’t join us on this outing because she had homework. Her AP teacher doesn’t get the “spring break” idea at all.
We weren’t disappointed. The sunken garden was filled with colors! Mostly purples, pinks and blues. Absolutely gorgeous. Looked and felt like summer.
I think we always enjoy these flowers so much because right now in March, all we see is brown, dead grass and even a little snow still left. Kelly said to me, “I love seeing all this green!” It was super warm in the conservatory, so it really felt tropical. We needed to take our coats off and Nate’s glasses even fogged up. ha~
I think my favorite shot of the day, was this orange tree. I shot it upwards and had the sun peeking through the leaves. It just says summer~ Love it!
Sadly, our tropical tour had to come to an end and the dream of being on vacation abruptly ended as soon as we walked back outside and saw the snow and felt the cold wind on our faces…brrr. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted and a great idea for an afternoon.
Luckily Nate and I had something to warm us up back home…our own little Easter gift that went perfectly with our braised chicken and cheesy potatoes. An excellent Chianti, if you are every looking for one. Very smooth with a bold flavor. Delicious!
I hope you all had a very nice Easter and spring break, for some of us. Tomorrow we Solberg’s all head back to school for nine more weeks. Then we will begin our summer break. Not that I’m counting…
