I feel like today was my official start of the Christmas season. It was our annual Holiday Sing-Along at school this morning. It’s always fun to gather all the kids from Kindergarten through 6th grade and sing songs for an hour. The kids are so excited and some even come dressed up in their “sunday best” or there are always a few wearing Santa hats. So cute, I love it!
Our regular music teacher has been out recovering from surgery since October, so we’ve had a new gal in her place that had to take over the sing-along this year. She did a little of the old stuff and added her own touch to the program. She got the entire staff, including the lunch ladies, to go up on the risers and play tambourines, jingle bells, and wooden sticks to the music of the Nutcracker. It was very entertaining and they sure had a good time, despite their original hesitancy. The kids loved seeing their teachers up there having fun.
Before the teacher’s began, our principal, Mr. Bonneville, made an appearance. He came out dressed as an elf (a large elf, I might add). He was dressed this way because last week we had a coin drive to raise money for Toys For Tots. He made an announcement on the first Monday of the drive, that if we made our goal, he would be dressed up in a costume at the sing-along. Each day, he gave a clue to the kids as to what he might be. It was very fun listening to their guesses all week. The funniest one I heard was…the Grinch. Ha! One of the teachers made this for him. Amazing!
Another new addition to our sing-along this year, were the Eagle Ridge Singers, from the Junior High next door. I was very excited to hear about this, because I would get to see and hear Kelly perform again. This group consists of around fifty, 7th-9th graders. They meet once a week before school and have been practicing together since October. They sang three songs for us and sounded beautiful. They hung around afterward and joined in with their wonderful voices and helped out with the songs. So glad they could join us. It was fun having them there. I hope this becomes a new tradition.
This was one fun morning and I think it got everyone into the spirit of the holidays. I’ve been working a lot lately, so I really needed a day like this. It made me happy to see my co-workers in a great mood as well. We are all looking forward to our winter break and spending time with our families. So if you are in the mood, I would suggest you turn on your radio or get those CD’s out and start singing! I will just make you happy! 🙂
My little guy, came all dressed up today. Adorable!
Enjoy the holidays everyone!!
