4th of July Projects

IMG_4151

We’ve been busy around the house these past few days.  Taking on a few projects while the weather is nice and we’re still motivated.  That’s what summer can do to you.  Project number one, was painting Megan’s room.  She wanted to update her room and freshen it up a little.  She chose a pretty orange colored called, ‘Cantaloupe Slice’.   The guys at the paint store mixed it up for us and said, “Oh, that color just makes you want to eat it!”  We laughed and agreed, it does look inviting.  For about a week, Megan spent some time in her room cleaning it, throwing things out and making a donation pile.  That was the hardest part of the remake.  Then we taped it up on Wednesday night, got our paint, and we were ready to start Thursday morning.  She went from a green room to orange in about five hours.

We did a little accessorizing to make things match.  She got a new comforter, put up some fresh pictures, and got a new mirror on the wall.    She loves the new look!

Nate took on his own project, while Megan and I were painting.  He went out and bought himself a chainsaw!  What for, you ask?  He’s been wanting to take our two pine trees down in our backyard for quite sometime now.   I will admit, I was a little nervous about him doing this alone and wanted him to ask a friend to at least be back there in case he needed any help, but he just went ahead and took it on himself.  He did come inside and ask if we could watch while he sawed the first one, in case we needed to call 911.  I heard Megan yell, “Timber!” and looked outside as it fell in the right direction.  Whew, I was very happy…and it was kind of cool watching it come down.   Nate was like a kid playing around with that saw.  He loved wearing the goggles and going after all those branches with ease.   He made us girls giggle as we ate lunch on the deck while enjoying him do his work.  We made sure to tell him to let us know when tree #2 was coming down because we wanted to watch.

Jazz didn’t seem to like this new look out back.  These pine trees are where she stands under when it is raining out.  They were her shelter and in the winter, not as much snow piled up there.  Don’t think she’s happy about this.  She went to investigate after they came down.   I guess we didn’t consult her first.  ha~

What the heck?

What the heck?

It took Nate two days to get the backyard cleanup from all of those branches and once he did, I took advantage of our brighter backyard, now that those two trees were gone.  I set up my hammock for a little quiet time outside.   As usual, my alone time was interrupted….this time by dogs!   Jazz and Ginger spotted me out there and would not leave me alone.  We are babysitting Ginger while Jim and Sandra are vacationing in Europe.  Talk about two needy dogs.  Both wanting my attention at the same time.  Ginger actually climbed into the hammock with me, rocking it all over, and decided she did not like this one bit.  She quickly jumped back out to the safety of the ground.  Good thing too, there was not enough room for me and a dog on this thing.   Next thing I know, they  both “hovered” around me until I gave in and got out and fed them dinner.

Kelly had the fun project.  She needed to pack for a week away at a cabin.  She is going up to Osakis this next week with her friend Olivia.  Osakis is about two and half hours north of here, near Alexandria.  They are staying at a place called, Buckpoint Resort.  The weather looks great this week and Kelly was so excited to go.  She will have such a fun time and we, back home, are very jealous.  She sent me one picture when she arrived.  I hope she sends me more.

Last night was the Fourth of July.  We made ourselves a traditional Solberg dinner for the event.  Brats, potato salad and fresh watermelon.

So delicious!

We enjoyed eating outside on the deck on a perfect summer night.  Around 8:00, we gathered the girls and their friends and headed over to AppleValley for their fireworks.  This is our “go to” place for Fourth of July.  Burnsville doesn’t have a celebration in July and we really enjoy the show over there.  They always have a fabulous finale and last night didn’t disappoint.  It was nice having both Megan and Kelly with us and their friends Courtney and Emily.   A great night all around.
