What a glorious day we had last Saturday. Temperature was 81 degrees and all sunshine, all day. It also happened to be Burnsville’s Prom. Megan has been dating Jacob for about seven months now and he asked her to prom in a cute way. He bought a picture frame and wrote a note inside…”Will you help me fill this? It made Megan smile and say yes.
Once she got this, it was time to find a dress, shoes, hairstyle and accessorize. Megan found a dress on-line that she really liked. It was a good price and I figured we could have it altered if it didn’t fit right. It came in the mail, she put it on, and it was a perfect fit. This is something that only happens to Megan. Who could get this lucky! I was thrilled that it fit so well and the color was gorgeous on her.
When Saturday came, Megan and Andra had planned to get their hair done together. We drove out to a gal’s house in Eden Prairie that Andra’s knew from church and they got the special treatment. It was so nice to have this done at someone’s house rather than at a salon. It was quiet, and very personal. Ellie (the hairstylist) really is quite an artist with hair and up-do’s. It took an hour and 68 bobby-pins for her to do Megan’s hair. We loved the end result.
After hair, came makeup. Megan wasn’t quite sure how she wanted her makeup done, so Andra offered to come over and put it on for her. This was fun to watch and brought back memories of these two. They have been in this bathroom, playing dress-up since they were 5 years old. And it continues…
It was time for Megan to get completely dressed & jewels on. Jacob and his parents were coming over to take a few pictures of Jacob giving Megan her corsage and Megan pinning on his boutonnière. Megan was starting to get a little nervous but excited to see Jacob. She didn’t show him her dress ahead of time. She wanted him to be surprised. I think she was more surprised when she saw him in a tux! I caught this picture of her when she first saw him walk in. She said…”Oh Mom, look how good he looks!”
So they got a chance to look at each other and shake off the nerves and then it was time for her to put on his flower. She wanted me to help but I told her she had to try it herself at least once. Nate & I just showed her where it goes. As always, the guy gets a bit nervous when the pin comes out. haha
We took a few pictures out on the deck before heading out for group pictures with all of her friends.
We’re off to meet up with the rest of the group and take many, many, many more pictures. The place to meet…Harriet Island Regional Park in St. Paul. Harriet Island is right along the Mississippi River and the Paddle-fords were parked on the shoreline getting stocked up for an evening cruise. We walked down by the river to take some pictures. It made for a nice background with the city skyline in the back.
This group has been together for a long time. They had a total of 18 friends and taking pictures went so smoothly. Once we got them started posing, they were really getting into it and having fun.
The picture taking time was coming to an end, at least for us parents. All the telephones started coming out and the kids started doing the crazy, fun pictures that they set up. Our time here is done.
Time for the parents to head out and get a beverage & dinner. We were thirsty after an hour and a half in 80 degree weather! Megan and friends had dinner reservations at a place called, “Salute” and then the Prom at Landmark Center, here in St. Paul. They enjoyed their night out, did some dancing and went to an after-party later on. I’m glad everyone came home safely and enjoyed their fancy evening.
