Writing my blog for this weekend, I couldn’t help but start singing the lyrics to “Summer Loving” from Grease. I’ll get you started, …”Summer loving had me a blast, Summer loving happened so fast…” you know the words and I know you’re already humming along. On Labor Day weekend, this is how we all feel when it’s time to head back to school and start another year. It’s also a fun time for me to look back at all the pictures I took this summer and enjoy it all over again. I think I’ll work backwards and start with last night.
My friend Sheri asked us to join her at the Burnsville Football game for Senior Night. Not that she’s a senior, the Senior’s in the band were being recognized and her daughter Beccah is part of that. The kids get to walk onto the field with their parents and be recognized. Since Sheri’s husband was out of town (India), we needed to support her and be as loud as we could and cheer them on. When she returned to her seat, she said, “Well, I could definitely hear all of you.” haha…thats what you get for asking us!
We sure had a good time on a hot summer night. Glad we went, thanks Sheri for the invite.
That was football, we also took in a baseball game this summer. The St. Paul Saints opened a brand new stadium and we needed to see this. Terry organized a night out for us and we all met up for a great night of baseball and family time.
This summer we kept cool by trying some Craft Beers at a few local establishments. We found one right in our neighborhood at a place called, Burger Jones. Nate follows them on Twitter and they “tweeted” that they were having a special on a craft beer made with cherries from Door County. It sounded so refreshing, that we jumped all over it and headed there for dinner.
We tried some other Craft Beers at a place in Minneapolis called, “Great Waters Brewery.” We called on our vineyard friends for a night out and a few of them were available to join us. At this place, we had a flight of beers to sample. We had many to choose from, but had to pick three for the flight. We have a lot of fun with this, because we all try to choose different ones, then pass the glasses around so we can all sample. It’s great to see the faces on some of those “yucky” ones. hehe. I like hearing everyone’s opinions as well. Very interesting to see who likes what and why. We all have different tastes buds and this makes us laugh.
This summer, we also took in some music at our parks. The first one was at Mears Park in St. Paul, where we enjoyed Guitar-Fest 2015. We hung out with Sheri & Kevin, and Jim & Sandra while listening to a three different bands throughout the night. Two of them we enjoyed, the other one we decided to grab dinner and another beverage while she played on. Good ole Muriel!
We always have to picnic at Lake Harriet in Mpls each summer. Nate & I usually go and listen to the Pops Orchestra, but we missed them this year as they played early on in the summer. Last weekend, there was a R&B group called, “Cold Sweat” and we really enjoyed them. Played a lot of old-school music that we found ourselves singing along too. Great time, perfect weather and lobster rolls for dinner. Can’t beat that for a picnic.
Speaking of parks…we also traveled to a park in Sheboygan, WI to visit the other Solberg’s (aka…grandma & grandpa). We visited over the Fourth of July and enjoyed a wonderful day at their local park. We ate snacks, played a game of “track ball”, which really brought back memories, and drank a few beverages to keep cool. Chad & Jody made us dinner at their place, then afterward, we headed over Kohler to watch the fireworks. Just a beautiful day all around. Love hanging out with the cousins, brothers, and in-laws. Never a dull moment over there in Wisconsin. (hehe) mainly because I get harassed about being from Minnesota (hmm, guess from who?) haha, but I love it! All in good fun~ Summer Lovin.
The girls had some “summer lovin” of their own. They were busy and are still cramming in as many activities as possible before Tuesday. Let’s start with Kelly. She spent the first half of the summer doing her musical then after that, kicked back a little and hung out with her friends. She got her driver’s permit in June and has been driving around with Nate & I when possible. Her friend Olivia invited her to a cabin for a weekend. They relaxed, took walks and even jet skied.
She and a few girlfriends bought a coupon for a photo shoot. They brought along two outfits, headed out to a local park and had a couple of hours of total fun.
Today was a very warm, tropical day here in Burnsville. Kelly and her friends all met at a park for a picnic then came back here with water balloons and water guns in hand. They found a great way to beat the heat right here in our backyard.
Oh…and one more thing…did I mention she got asked to Homecoming? He used all the plays and musicals that Kelly has been in on his sign. Cute idea!
Megan’s had a busy summer as well. She’s been thinking about college and we have visited a few. Megan has decided that she will go into nursing as her major in college. So she took a class this summer to get certified to be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She passed all the tests and now would like to work part-time so she can put this on her resume.
This is a big school year ahead for Megs. Being a senior has a lots of perks too. She had to get her Senior pictures taken this summer, so we chose a very hot day in July to do this. haha~ Megan wanted her pictures outdoors and at a park, so we traveled over to Prior Lake and her photographer did a wonderful job. Megan brought along four different outfits to wear and was posed amongst the flowers, bridges, and out in the fields. The photographer told us that Megan made her job so easy and did a great job. We couldn’t wait to see them. The hardest part now, is trying to choose which ones to put in a frame. I love them all!
Megan spent a lot of time with her boyfriend, Jacob as well as her girlfriends. He and his family have a trailer/cabin on Pelican Lake in Ashby, MN and Megan was invited a couple times and took advantage of that. Like Kelly, she too got to ride and drive the Jet-ski this summer. They also did some tubing behind the boat, going for walks, fishing and enjoying the scenery away from home.
It was a active summer for Megs. She really took advantage of the cities, parks and did so many fun things that I can’t put in my blog or I’d need to do a whole blog on just her. Being able to drive with her friends, really helps and sometimes I got a bit jealous of all the fun stuff they did. It brought back memories of my teenage years, so I’m glad they are doing these things now and she’ll remember them as well when she’s older.
Yesterday, Jacob asked her to homecoming as well. So both girls have dates, but will be going with a large group of friends. She is busy getting that last bit of summer homework done today and then relax a couple days before her big senior year starts. She’s looking forward to it.
Today we were suppose to picnic with the Smith’s, but the weather is not cooperating. It is raining off and on and the heat is on! We may try again tomorrow and I guess just hang out inside today.
So as I reread this, it makes me smile and sad at the same time. I hate for summer to end, but we sure had a good time. The weather this summer was fantastic and allowed us to get out and enjoy summer activities. That’s all we can hope for each June when we race out those school doors. Going back on Tuesday, we will not race in, but rather drag our feet. Here’s hoping for a good school year for us all!
